Wednesday, August 10 - The Caravan is Formed

All twelve motor coaches arrived safely at the Harpers Ferry/Civil War Battlefields KOA campground in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.  Wilt greeted each arriving motor coach and escorted it to the assigned campsite.  Ed assisted drivers into getting parked in the campsite.

For those not familiar with Harpers Ferry, Wikipedia describes it as: “Harpers Ferry is a historic town in Jefferson County, West Virginia, United States.  It was formerly Harper's Ferry with an apostrophe and that form continues to appear in some references.  It is situated at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers where the U.S. states of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia meet.  It is the easternmost town in West Virginia.  The original, lower section of the town is located on a low-lying flood plain created by the two rivers and surrounded by higher ground.  Historically, Harpers Ferry is best known for John Brown's raid on the Armory in 1859 and its role in the American Civil War.  The population was 286 at the 2010 census.”

As the group first convened, there were a lot of hugs and handshakes as longtime friends reunited and  newcomers were welcomed to Monacos in Motion caravans.  The participants include:

Wilt G. was determined to let everyone know who is in charge of the caravan.

To kick-off the caravan, the group participated in the long-standing tradition of “social time” before enjoying an excellent supper prepared by caravan leaders Barbara and Connie.

After dinner, the participants competed in a rousing miniature golf tournament.  Although Betsy H. had a record setting four (4) holes-in-one, the low score winner was Joe M.  The rest of us competed vigorously for high score.  There was no clear “winner” in this category, so Wilma Jean A. accepted the coffee mug prize on behalf of all of us.
